Dawn Bon-Bernard - Artist Statement
Pen & Ink with Watercolour, Calgary, Alberta
Dawn was born and raised in Southern Alberta and has always been drawn to the outdoors and its beauty. She grew up watching her grandfather bring images to life as he painted the landscapes of the Canadian Rockies. It gives her joy to follow in his footsteps and to see landscapes emerge through the medium of pen & ink with watercolor.
Studying first under Betty MacDonald, Dawn learned the fundamentals that continues to be a foundation on how she approaches her art. In recent years Dawn was captivated by Donna Jo Massie’s ability to use watercolor in a unique way and that has led her back to this medium.
Dawn and her husband love being outside and take every opportunity to invite their children and grandchildren into their adventures.
