Leanne Schnierer - Artist Statement

Leanne is an Edmonton born landscape artist with a love of colour. As a child, she was immersed in the outdoors spending every weekend at the family homestead, camping or at the lake and in retrospect, this is where her love of the land was born. Leanne is drawn to city skylines, mountains, water and reflections. The contrast of a linear bridge or mountain next to the organic lines of a river or tree is a constant in her compositions. She explores an area then turns her experience into a lively piece with vibrant energy in a “pop landscape” style. Her instincts push the colour palette to portray the composition in an enhanced rendition and to give the piece energy and life. As your eye moves through her paintings, you discover subtle bits of whimsey that surprise and charm you. Her work is a reflection of the wonder and excitement she feels when surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Leanne’s hope is for the viewer to experience those same feelings when exploring her work. In 2016, Leanne became a full time artist dividing her time between Edmonton and Canmore, Alberta where she is active in both art communities. Her work can be found in various art markets, group shows and through her website. She is a member of the Society of Western Canadian Artists, the Night of Artists, The Canmore Art Guild, Visual Arts Alberta and her Cityscape Series is represented through Tix on the Square in Edmonton’s Churchill Square.
