Lynne Kemshead - Artist Statement
The medium of clay has provided a joyful experience for me during the many years that I have allowed it to guide my artistic expression and exploration.
Time stands still when I am in my studio. Because the process is so fulfilling, I approach each new art adventure with excited anticipation. For me, it is all about personal and sensory expression; what I feel, what I value, what I treasure.
My enduring love of detailed imagery from the natural world has long been a source of inspiration for my raku fired clay work. I’m regularly searching for natural materials to press or incise patterns into the clay. Leaf and twig patterns, stream bed landscapes, as well as the rhythm of flowing water inspired my recent hand built clay pieces.
I’m enthralled with the unpredictable process of raku firing. The drama of the outdoor firing method and the excitement of seeing the warm metallic sheens and rich textures of the finished glazes, provides the ultimate in my art making experience.
I hope my art work will encourage others to open their senses to explore and make connections with the beauty and natural elegance of our environment.
